What is Your Emotional Quotient?
Emotion is Energy in Motion
Emotions are the bridge between the mind and the body. Whenever a thought arises, an emotion about that thought is triggered and our body's hormonal glands begin to secrete the appropriate hormone to best prepare us for what our thoughts seek to accomplish. In other words, when we consciously or unconsciously thinking thoughts our emotional body will signal our physical body to adjust and match that signal.
Overcoming Emotional Pain
That is the mind-body connection. If you are thinking about being attacked in some way, then emotional body will signal the adrenal glands to secrete adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol and prepare you to meet the challenge of what those thoughts will bring. Emotional pain caused by your thoughts about what is happening to you, whether personal, career or relationship related will cause these hormones to be released throughout your body and cause damage. When it comes down to it, it's not what is happening in your environment – It's what you think about what's happening in your environment that really counts.
Proper nutrition can help you think better thoughts because they influence your brain chemistry and hormone release. The hormones and neurotransmitters are meant to serve and protect us, but when left unchecked it can lead to emotional eating because of these hormones being constantly elevated. There are certain foods that can also trigger a habit of emotional eating. These foods hijack our normal hormone production and make eating a subconscious habit instead.
Emotional Eating
The first thing I would do is to calm the emotional triggers by using a homeopathic flower essence kit called “the emotional eating kit.” This will help you stop the triggers that are firing each time you reach for that forbidden food. After that you can begin choosing foods that allow you to be in a high energy state and lose the negative cravings associated with lower feeling emotional states.
If your goal is health and emotional intelligence, try to avoid or limit the following from your diet:
- Genetically Engineered Foods
- High Fructose Corn Syrup products
- Non-organic foods which are full of pesticides and toxin
- Toothpaste with fluoride in it
- Drinking unpurified water (chlorine and fluoride plus pharmaceutical products
- Meat treated with hormones and produced inhumanely
- Milk and cheese treated with the RBST hormone
- Nitrites in cured foods
Consider adding the following to your diet instead:
- Green Vegetables (organic and local if possible)
- Fresh Local Fruits (organic and local if possible)
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Coconut Oil and Water
- Almonds and Walnuts
- Wild Salmon and Oily Fish
- Whole Grains
- Superfoods (wheat grass, spirulina, blue green algae, gogi, dark chocolate, red wine, medicinal mushrooms, etc.)
Emotional Therapy is learning to take control of our emotions by expanding our awareness and opening our minds to the possibility of greater more empowering beliefs and thoughts. If we perceive our world to be a dangerous place, our thoughts (60,000 of them per day) will create the brain circuitry necessary to induce an automatic response to those beliefs and trigger the hormones necessary to prepare for survival – stress hormones.
When we do that we also squeeze the blood out of our brains (no more critical thinking), metabolize our muscles into fast energy (muscle loss) and suppress our immune systems for the more important perceived threat to our survival. Even if it is not really true (and most cases it is not) our body will function on “auto-pilot” unless we are able to recognize what is going on and makes changes to bring our thoughts and beliefs into something that will serve us in a positive way.
Healing Emotional Disorders
Our emotions are also brought into play by how we react to stress. Environmental stress, coming from outside of us (like severe heat or cold, extreme noise, toxins, pollutants and toxic relationships) can be a primary cause of emotional disorders like stress and emotional breakdown. The goal with environmental stress because we can't always control it, is to prepare for it and learn to practice a positive response (conditioned response) instead of a non-thinking reaction (like smashing a boom box or cell phone that is always ringing). It is much better to think about what we can do before the stressor happens. For instance we can have a set of earplugs handy or make an agreement with a person that is disturbing us, or even leave that environment and be at peace.
Emotional Healing Guidelines
Nutrition and Exercise also play a big part in the emotional intelligence equation. Certain foods, like salmon, flax seed and walnuts have a high level of omega-3 fatty acids and help create more of the positive happiness related hormones like serotonin. Physical exercise, particularly when done in a nature setting will help your body secrete growth hormone which will help you feel good naturally. When you are feeling your best, your emotions serve you well, and other people (plants and animals too) are attracted to your energy and you can easily form positive harmonious relationships. Being sedentary (not exercising), using poor posture, not getting enough sleep (limited growth hormone production) and eating junk foods.
One really good way to get quick relief from emotional distress is to use a form of homeopathy known as bach flowers remedies. These natural remedies are a form of vibrational medicine which imprints specific flower essences into spring water and are made just for emotional and psychological imbalances, particularly stress, anxiety, depression, fear, anger and general discomfort. They have one called rescue remedy that works instantly, is safe, effective and non-habit forming. You can get it at homeopathicmedicine.one.
EFT Tapping
A great way to heal from emotional trauma and reset your whole body, mind and soul is by using EFT Tapping. This therapy works on removing the cause of your emotional trauma, and replacing it with a positive re-frame (NLP) so the next time you are faced with the same situation, you will automatically respond in a way that is beneficial to you. You can learn more about EFT Tapping (and watch some free videos by Dr. Bruce Lipton, Jack Canfield and Cheryl Richardson) by visiting the the clicking on following link for on EFT Tapping.
NLP Therapy
Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP builds associations with the kind of people you would like to emulate on some level. If you surround yourself with positive, healthy people you will pick up some of their habits and become like them in that respect. In NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) it's called modelling. It's part of a positive counseling therapy that will enhance your emotional intelligence greatly. It will also raise your personal vibration and open your mind to more empowering belief systems that you can incorporate into your own life. Others will see how you now respond to stress and they may choose to model you from now on.
